Caught you, [livejournal.com profile] rhapsody11 :D But I had to work for it! Love having Rhapsy as a writing buddy... tonight we're neck and neck, tomorrow she'll pass me again. It's also wonderful doing NaNo with her because she's having so much fun with her characters and it keeps me inspired. It's very cool that just short of the 40k mark, I'm chasing someone who originally planned a half NaNo - 25k. There's a special magic in a story that just keeps growing.

BB2 has a beginning, a middle, and I can see the end but it'll need at least another 10k beyond the required 50. Needs lots and lots of editing for grammar and phrasing, cutting out the repetitions (one of my bad habits is saying the same thing in three different ways), taming dialogue that wanders off and has nothing to do with anything, and the rest of the joy that comes with a first draft. I always write a dirty first draft, so I know exactly what to expect - the usual horror, just way more of it *g*.

Everything's here that should be, and since I delete missteps and false starts as they happen, nothing's here that shouldn't be, except for a section that desperately needs a third character for balance. There's no time to go back and adjust scene after scene and write in dialogue and planning, so I stuck in track changes comments and it can wait till I edit. It won't change the content, just make it hold together better - an expansion, not a rewrite.

There's a chance Glorfindel may never forgive me for a certain little plot twist.

So very well done! I know what you mean about messy first drafts, mine will be cringe-worthy as well. But I'll also have the fun of looking through it again and seeing my characters develop and where they will go. That will make up for a lot. I expect I'll still be finishing this at the end of December and into January before I'm finally finished with my first draft. I'm SO VERY PROUD of both you and Rhapsody11. It's been great writing NaNo together with you!

It's great reading back and finding bits you forgot all about --- good or bad, LOL. I'll need to cut back what I have to around 60k to match the first part, but it's a running joke between me and Red that when I edit things get longer - BB1 grew by about 8k during editing. Ah well. Like you, that's January's problem. I have Binky's awards, the gen fic Yule and a gift fic to deal with in December, plus touching sides with my OEAM Big Bang.

That all looks rather intimidating written down *g*.

I just managed to catch Rhapsody again last night but she'll be in the lead again when she updates. I think having someone to share the final week's chase with is the most fun part of NaNo - I'm loving it.

Fortunately I already have Binky's finished and I'm well on the way with my gen fic Yule piece. I will be doing art again for the Big Bang, so that doesn't even get assigned for a while yet so I have breathing room there. I do have to find or compose something appropriate for my Solstice cards and get those designed and made. I still want to paint my hi-tops with my LOTR facade and I have a beading project that is just begging to be designed.

But I have this NaNo novel.... and oh my, I just love my characters ... and they have SUCH a long way that they still need to go...
