traditional tree post
Dec. 25th, 2019 04:17
Yes, traditional Christmas tree post is here. Some time between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, in that strange grey place where you fell asleep but then woke up and couldn't get back to sleep and no stray mouthful wants to fall off the roast lamb.
Tree 2019 - isn't. Instead it is referred to here as the Christmas Bush. Poor baby is lovely and bushy, more so than any tree we've had in ages, but its top got bent over at some point so it is delightfully rounded (think Aziraphale). Add to that it's short - and I am speaking here as a person who does not quite make the 155 cm mark (5'2"?). It just fits in a corner where I would not expect a tree to go too, though it means I mustn't come out of the kitchen in too much of a rush.
Tomorrow we're going to M for lunch, her first try at hosting for (part of) the family. She needs to break into the Christmas lunch thing gently, just have the parents round before taking on J's massive family. It does mean I have had to do the least prep in so many years that it feels strange --- J is even seeing to dessert. I just have to supply the (dubious) lamb and the bean and bacon dish that has become a Christmas standby here.
I managed to post my Tumblr Tolkien Secret Santa fic, had to put in a lot of hours yesterday to get it where I wanted it. Recip is happy with it so it was worth the pain. I think it's the first time I've written Celebrian and Elrond --- well, it's Celebrian really, her pov. Treat their marriage as something a bit more pragmatic than 'love at first sight' and I find it much more interesting. Now I need to finish editing and post the next chapter of Answers (rather late) and go tear my hair out over Flamingo. Also have my MSV assignment, but I'll worry about that later.
I know Donald and his friends say there is no climate change, but it's meant to be summer here and has been damn cold today with rain forecast. Have no idea where we're going. Myself? I'm going back to sleep.
Wishing you all peace, love, and friendship, and all the promise of hope the season holds. Have a beautiful and blessed Wednesday.

I hope you have a good lunch!
