yes, an update

I should post more, yes. I get sad that people I know are lurking but no longer post and then realised I do exactly the same thing these days. Not sure what it is - just out of the habit, probably. And went through a spell of not wanting to write ANYTHING, and that included blog posts. Still, I've caught myself telling people I miss them when all they're doing is what I've done for whatever their good reasons are. As we say here, I need to sit down and be quiet. And try and get back to a more regular posting schedule.
Working on Flamingo is happening again. There was a break when I just couldn't, but Red is trying to get me to write a bit every night and it's starting to take hold again. I also want to clear a little space to do the next SWG challenge, Behind the Scenes, because I know exactly what I want to write and that is too rare an event to let slip by *g*. I didn't get to write for the Silmarillion40 - there were only two prompts that spoke to me and both were taken before I could get to them - but I've been reading sporadically and have found some good fiction. Go take a look at the archive. I also have my OEAM Big Bang to make a start on - I'm thinking of doing a Half NaNo and using the discipline to write it there.
Grandbaby is doing well -- five and a half months old, small and opinionated. Love it when they start displaying real personality! She had her first swimming lesson last week and was totally laid back about the whole thing (unlike the boy baby next to her who did a lot of screaming). Her Dad was very proud of her - of the two I think he had the most fun, she looked very seriious in the photographs I was shown :D. I've noticed she likes to take her time summing things up. Update: grandbaby was here. Screamed and screamed because overtired. They just left. It is wonderful being a grandparent - the rest of the night is not your problem!!!!!
Despite some late season rain, the drought is getting even more severe, water restrictions are tighter and the city is cutting random suburbs to trickle-flow for half a day at a time to reduce usage. They don't warn, you just turn your tap on and get a nasty surprise (this is to prevent people from filling bathtubs just before, which would kind of negate the event). We've been warned to keep at least 5 litres around for drinking and cooking, just in case. What happens when millions of overseas tourists hit us in about a month's time is anybody's guess.
I could fill a whole post with South African politics, but then I would get angry and swear a lot so I'll restrict myself to saying it's like a very bad sitcom, just YOU COULD NOT MAKE THIS SHIT UP!!
For those with fond memories of a-ha's Take on Me, here is the ultimate, their unplugged version. Wistful and quite beautiful!
Finally, the Many Paths to Tread year end swap is open for sign ups till the end of October. I love this one, it's the only swap I've taken part in where you get to pick your own prompt instead of having it assigned (if you're quick enough with your claim, that is)

Date: 2017-10-21 22:07 (UTC)Sorry about the link, there's always something that doesn't work both sides. The comm doesn't register over here (it works on the lj post) but here's the link to the info page for the swap - https://lotr-community.livejournal.com/402102.html You need to join the comm and the archive, but that's about it - I know a few people who only post there once a year, for the swap.

Date: 2017-10-22 15:16 (UTC)Just don't wait for me though, because then you will sit there very very quiet for a long time :)
Write when you can and find joy in it. I just hope that you never have to go through a long time of going without as I am currently find myself in. Also now when even other fannish joys have been snuffed out. And don't worry, I have made my peace with it. It is what it is, and the space it once occupied was quickly filled with more RL stuff.
Hopefully I can see that day when I can start enjoying the fannish riches left by others (especially your work) so chip away, play, giggle when writing!)
Love it when they start displaying real personality!
Hahaha yeah! :D But they grow up so so fast!
just YOU COULD NOT MAKE THIS SHIT UP!!
Queue in Spain saying 'Hold my beer!'
Before I forget, wub you hon <3 <3 <3 Thanks for poppin' in.

Date: 2017-10-24 02:48 (UTC)When life changes and you have time/space to come back to fandom, all that fiction will be there waiting for you - things like the Silmarillion40 collection which I didn't write for but have found so much to read in, and all the other challenges that have and will come along. Just be happy, my dear, because that's how life should be.
And yes, they do grow so darn fast. But every stage is an adventure.
*hugs tight, sends much love*

Date: 2017-10-24 02:51 (UTC)At least I'm getting the urge to write things again, can only be good, lol. I went through a bad patch - normally writer's block upsets me, this time it was more like 'don't care if I never do this again'. Looking back, that was a bit scary.
A-ha did Crying in the Rain, yes. I've been a fan for years, didn't realise I wanted unplugged versions till I heard this.

Date: 2017-11-23 16:59 (UTC)So good to hear from you! <3 I totally share your feeling, too; I miss people not posting more, but don't manage it myself either. I'm also really happy to hear you're writing again, and hope you'll find time, energy, and creativity to do the challenges you want!
I'd started with Silm40 myself, with the only prompt I could do, and even had a great start into it, but for the first time had to default a challenge - Mattis happened, and I simply was incapable of finding the words to continue. I therefore chose to do a rebel NaNo this year and work at some of my WIPs, and at least writing went decently, and I'm about to send two and a half story to the beta soon (they're done, but I rather wanted to keep the editing/writing momentum instead of going through each one last time before sending it off.)
I just realised grandbaby is about the same age as our
ferocious little tigershopeful furry teenagers, which currently are as energy-consuming as a small toddler is, according to my sisters. Love to hear she's small and opiniated, and showing personality! :DI'm very sorry to hear the drought is so bad, and wish this were just a sitcom. *hugs*
Thank you for the link, it's lovely. I haven't followed them regularly, they're more Siljan's favourites than mine, although I like them a lot, and this tells me I should give them a lot more attention right now. (Is that a harpsichord standing there in front?)
