Slashy Valentine 2017
Dec. 15th, 2016 02:52From the Years of the Trees to the Fourth Age, from sultry tales of the Silmarillion to romances in the Ring Wars...
Yes, you know the rest. It's mid-December and the final week to sign up for My Slashy Valentine 2017. I know life is busy and sometimes it's easy to forget the love of writing, and of Middle-earth, that drew us into this fandom, but the swap might be your best chance for a while to get in there and s t r e t c h those writing muscles. So go on, close your eyes and jump! And remember, if you're stuck on what to ask for, send me a PM. I have all sorts of scary ideas.

Date: 2016-12-15 17:42 (UTC)I just can't fit in SV, I'm afraid. I did post about it on Faerie News though, and reblogged it on Tumblr.
May the Muses be kind, if you're writing for it :)

Date: 2016-12-17 01:25 (UTC)Yeah, I know you don't do the swaps. I understand completely about working within your own universe (maybe you could give it a try some day and treat it like a rather weird AU...?) I'm not taking part this time. The fic I started for Red last Slashy Valentine decided to be a chaptered monster and the rule is I can't sign up again till it's finished --- about to post chapter 10 with two more to go, so that's me out till Kit's swap midyear, lol. It feels a bit strange but it's fair.
I need to start posting on Faerie again, it's such a lovely archive. My corner of fandom is so quiet it started feeling a bit 'eager' to be posting all over the place so I stuck to Ao3 and occasionally on MPTT/SWG, but I guess that's silly too.

Date: 2016-12-17 09:42 (UTC)That seems to be about the limit of communication. I have a beta invite for a new platform called Pillowfiort which should be starting soon. I want to see what that is like; it's being developed by people who thought Tumblr could be better - and it could be.
I just have no interest in other fandoms, never have. There are things I might like about them, but they don't inspire me to write fanfic, which is the big litmus test for me. I read voraciously, for instance, but never want to write fanfic about those books.
I did write a fandom stocking fic a couple of years back, about 11,000 words, which was completely outside my AU, but it felt very strange. This time ten years ago I was half way through writing the first draft of Dark Prince and I've put so many hours, so many words into that 'verse (and offshoots) that I just can't see the point of abandoning my OC's for ny length of time. They've been around a long time, now. I got a comment that warmed me on AO3 not long ago; the person said they missed my OC's when they weren't in other fic. And I miss them, too.
If I were younger, with more time and energy, no doubt I would, or if I were more of a 'flitter' who could easily jump from one thing to another... but I'm not. I can focus on one (or two) stories pretty well, but can't jump around. Some-one said on the Faerie shoutbox that Tumblr has adult ADDH, and it's true. And I don't - at all! I'm almost the opposite.
Oh, you should post on Faerie. I don't think it matters where we post or to how many archives. I mainly read on Faerie and a little on AO3 if I get author update, but rarely anywhere else, as I did years back when I had more time to browse. And I like it because it's friendly and quiet -- as in, no bad feeling and no wank going on!
