I'm running three emails, five pages of LJ and an awful lot of fiction behind. Two fic swaps back to back, Christmas, New Year and family meltdowns can do this, yes? I'll get there in the end. Meanwhile - fandom!

Day 2: In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Okay, this one's easy and fun and is what fandom's all about - finding new places. Here's a swap, a community, an archive, and - well, a place.

Slashy Santa: a twice yearly Tolkien slash fiction swap - My Slashy Valentine and Ardor in August (or sometimes Sultry in September *g*). It's somewhere the slash and femslash writing side of the Tolkien fandom can gather together, suffer, whine, tear hair, and eventually produce amazing fiction and an outpouring of fandom love. Lots of elves, but also men, dwarves, Valar - you name it. Friendly mods, great participants, recently moved to AO3 so no more weird site glitches, and a good place to find new writers. Oh, and here's the old site if you want to page back a bit.

The LotR Community: Possibly not the biggest Tolkien community or archive out there, but there's lots happening - a warm, friendly space hosting monthly fic and art challenges, a year end Yule swap and the yearly Tree and Flower Awards. The mods are lovely, everyone is very helpful, and they welcome anything Tokien - LotR, Silm, Hobbit - though graphic sex and violence aren't allowed. R ratings are accepted, though not in the challenges which cap at PG-13. There are some wonderful authors in their archive, which is really worth a browse.

And talking about archives....

The Middle-Earth Fanfiction Awards Archive
is a vast place with fiction from all corners of the Tolkien fandom, a great place to visit on a winter's afternoon with something to suit almost everyone. In their own words: The MEFAs no longer exist, but the archive of participants will live on! The archive lists the titles of every piece that was nominated for the Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards from 2004-2011. It also provides some basic information about the story and the reviews it received.

And finally:

Archive of Our Own: Because -- FANDOM!!!! If you want it you will find it there. If you didn't know you wanted it, you will also find it there. AO3 is proof that there is no limit to the human imagination --- VIVA IMAGINATION!!

I still go to the MEFA archive if I want just something to read.

Also it contains one of my favourite reviews of one of my stories, which starts

As one who is not an admirer of slash writing, I tend to read such stories mostly only at MEFA time, and mostly out of a sense of duty to see as many stories read and reviewed as possible. To find that this one was not merely another almost obligatory Boromir/Theodred romance was a great relief in a way I'd not thought to find.

Just started laughing all over again. Oh dear, and it's meant to be the ultimate in compliments. I had a few comments for Hidden Within that included thanks for not writing Erestor and Glorfindel in one of those unnecessary slash relationships. People don't always hear themselves *g*.

Love your description of TheOnePlace a.k.a. AO3. And I have to check out the MEFA Awards sometime - whenever I find myself short of fannish reading... *looks at her Tolkien fanfic folder on the Kindle currently containing over 260 works* *looks at the link* Well, maybe later. *g*
- No, honestly, I have marked it already as a good resourse to find more good reading, but I'm truly still so swamped with so much things to read, it will be ages before I get to that. Or somebody gifts me with a time-turner.

I have no idea how I'm going to find time just to work through the Yule and SeSa fics, let alone Yuletide. Not enough hours in the day, even on weekends!
