And the strange weather continues. Gauteng province, including Johannesburg, has snow - the real thing, not something that melts as it hits the ground. Not much work getting done up there, they're all out of their offices having a look. They've had to close a major pass though, because there's ice on the road. Apparently the last time they saw this much snow up there was in the 80s (okay, 'this much' is relative, we're talking no more than a couple inches, of course *g*)

It's all over the mountains down here and the air's so cold it bites even in the sun. We seem to be having a proper winter. Suits me, I'm a winter person :)

Added: and apparently this is the first time on record that all nine provinces had snow falling somewhere on the same day. Yes indeedy, the Mayans were right!!

Bizzare weather this year. We're still waiting for summer! :P

It's years since we've had a winter this cold. It's hard to believe the pictures on the news were taken here. I took all the pretty snow icons down about a year ago because it didn't feel honest to use them when we don't have snowy winters. HA!

*hugs*

How very fun. I hope that the snow didn't visit you just because you acted as a beta for me. After all, snow is my norm up here in the snow belt of North America - LOL. But I think snow in those areas where it is rarely seen is an unexpected playtime for all. Enjoy!

Heh, it was either you or Hilary Clinton, who arrived with the snow and predictably has been given a name meaning 'she who brings the snow', lol!

I'd be a hero if I could precipitate a white Christmas, so you might want to send me your NaNo novel to work on in December *g*.

LOL - my first drafts are horrible and in NaNo, it's all first draft just to get the word count and project completed. But trust me, if you're willing, I'll try my best to have a chapter or two your direction for Christmas beta work even though you'll be in your summer at that time *hugs*.

*watches snowflakes decorate the roses*, LOL. Oh and yes, I know exactly what a NaNo first draft looks like - I found some very strange things to clean up (and occasionally rewrite) in Burning Bright :D

No snow here :( but *very* humid weather added to the cold. I'm a winter person too but a little drier would be much better

I'm not fond of humidity. It never used to be a problem in Cape Town until a couple of years back, too. Climate change, I guess.

I am excited for you. I remember it snowing in the San Francisco Bay Area in the hills around us when we lived there. I never was awake early enough to see it though in those cases.

It snowed when I was a kid living in Josi and my dad used to joke after that it's the fastest he ever saw me get out of bed. He put his head round the door, told me it was snowing, and next minute I was outside in my pjs *g*

I hope the Mayan were right about a new cycle starting on Winter Solstice, and nothing else. We have quakes everyday in my country, small quakes, but everyday is a bit too much.

A spiritual awakening an progression sounds a lot better than 'the world will end in fire', lol. There seem to have been a lot of quakes and volcanic mutterings in the past couple of years. The earth's crust must be going through an unstable patch or something, yes?

Date: 2012-08-09 02:37 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silver-trails.livejournal.com
I hope that's it. Now the Mayan didn't really said it would all end in fire, did they? I thought it was all about an ancient calendar that ended on this year's winter sostice.

Did you get to watch the movie 2012? That was scary enough.

I think there was a tradition or something that got misunderstood and translate to mean it would end in fire, but the thing I hear most is there'll be a change of heart and a spiritual awareness - and I think the human race is more than ready for that.

I love disaster movies --- 2012 was good, my country survived, lol. Scary thing though was that I could believe in a lot of what happened, like the giant tsunamis.

I have just asked my daughter, and she says that the Mayan believed in cycles, and it's a cycle that is ending, only that. At least that's how archeologists see this.

A new spiritual awareness without the shackles of the monotheist religions sounds good to me.

Lucky you! (g) It was very well done, yes.

Snow in Gauteng? I can hardly believe it! I'm trying to imagine the reaction in Botswana if it snowed there. I think they really would think the world was coming to an end!

I'm guessing the mountains are covered with snow even if it hasn't gone lower than that. I just checked - Gaborone's overnight temp is 2C, actual temp -1... I need to stop complaining, lol - we're at least 5 *g*.

Congrats? =)

I grew up in snow (where Erulisse lives), but I haven't been in a place with snow in about 12 years. I kind of miss it.

I just love the icon, very pretty.

I pulled all my other snow icons because it didn't seem honest to use them when we don't get snow --- yes, quite :D I'd love to live somewhere that gets real snow though, just for the experience.

It seems that extreme weather is just about everywhere - most odd.

I hate proper winters. I much prefer proper summers :D I wonder when we will see our one.

Are you going to buy some thermal underwear and some wellies?

Date: 2012-08-09 01:14 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] keiliss.livejournal.com
The biggest joke is what's in the shops now - they start putting out the summer clothes at the end of July, fresh from Britain and Europe :) :) Chances of finding thermal underwear = nil. Next year I'll know!

Your summer has rather been busy elsewhere hasn't it? There've been days when I've looked at the international weather on the news and wondered if it was literally raining all over the world.

Yes, our summer went on an extended holiday - the British people will be having a strong word with it when it slinks back :D

Winter... ah....

It's too hot for me here but we are still in the house with A/C so I'm content. :) I can't wait for Fall! I can wait for the extra work that comes with it, however.

She is a busy and popular young lady, I see *g*. Poor Kevin, I hope he woke up smiling the next day. Being restricted by the weather must be a bit difficult for him, I'm thinking?

I love winter, too - as long as I don't have to drive anywhere in the yuck. ;)

Enjoy the weather!

If I could send you a little of our cold weather and you could send me a little of your summer heat, we'd both be very comfortable, lol!

I swear it's been raining all over the world lately, it's as though the seasons are blending, lol. Glad things have cooled down a bit, I'd always rather be a little too cold than a bit too warm.

Winter. ♥

Snow is wonderful. Although, it's probably pretty danged chilly there now inside if indoor heating isn't the norm.

Date: 2012-08-09 18:43 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] keiliss.livejournal.com
We don't tend to have heating, we don't get extremes in temperature for long enough to make it worth it, so only the rich are comfortable right now, lol. Yes well, what else is new? I'm wearing fingerless gloves as I type and my fingers are still cold. It probably wouldn't seem too cold to you, but we're not very tough over here, lol!

Eef. That's like us and air conditioning - fully air-conditioned houses are incredibly, incredibly rare, though a lot of us have small portable units (or just a bunch of fans, like I do).

Hope it's warming up a little - at least enough for the fingers to be all right. Cold fingers are the worst, especially when at the computer.
