Almost there, should get in another 1,000 words tonight and with luck I'll just have the rounding off to write tomorrow. With luck. If it doesn't get all independant and head off somewhere unforeseen. Guess I'll have to revise the word count. Then I'll work through it a chapter at a time to tidy it up - I've already broken it into around 10 short chapters.

Been feeling really quiet these past two days. I've written, I've sorted my MEFA wish list, I've posted a few more things on AO3... I am really shallow, I haven't posted much there, but now I find there are skins and I can get rid of the basic red I'm happy. So - all my fiction is on my website, then some of my fics, specially the E/G stories, are on OEAM (I have a few more I need to post there), most of my Silm fics get on SWG in the end, and maybe I'll just put stories I'm fond of on AO3.

About the current upheaval: it was nice to be reminded of the real size of the Tolkien fandom, and to see how fandom in general will unite in the face of interlopers with a bad case of Stupid.

And on the subject of fandom --- I read Lev Grossman's article. I'm not sure how to explain this: it made me feel happy? He did good research and then talked articulately about something I love. He took us seriously, and fandom doesn't see that a lot, not in the mainstream media. Enjoyed it, found myself nodding quite a few times.

What current upheaval? I mean, I'm in the Tolkien fandom too and I have no clue what you are speaking about. (g)

It's about the sale of the LotR FanFiction archive :) Um, where to start... Esteliel's covered things pretty thoroughly. Here's a link to her first post on it - http://esteliel.livejournal.com/428988.html#cutid4 - and if you read her entries after this you'll get an excellent picture of the full story. A lot of people have been very upset by it.

Ah! I know about that! I thought something else had happened. :)

Thank you for the link!

Heh, no. It made fandom_wank - that's about enough drama for one month, lol.

Good luck with the editing. I completely stopped work on Elegy after that month of frenzied writing. But I think it was good to take a breather.

I really enjoyed Lev Grossman's article. I should write a letter to the editor and tell them how much. I will once I feel articulate.

Writing a letter's an excellent idea, the article certainly merits it. There were no false notes. I liked how non-judgemental he was about sexual and kink content, it made a refreshing change.

I'm sure you needed a break after that marathon, lol. At least now you can finish at your own speed and take as long as you need to get it the way it's meant to be. Best of luck with the final stretch.

If you ever see me threatening to do a Big Bang again, remind me how miserable I was this time :| It's taken me till now to get into the story and really hear the people (thanks mainly goes to Levade for that - she's the ultimate cheerleader :D)

I did write a short note praising his handling of the issue. I figure we should reward people who get it right.

Re: Big Bang, who runs that and is it just LOTR? I hear you guys talking about it but am unfamiliar with it.

It's here - http://lotrgficbigbang.livejournal.com/profile It was set up by the LotR genfic com: any of Tolkien's works, 20K, pg-13 and under (their definition and mine might not be the same *g*), due July 29th. It's the first time they've run this, and I'm curious to see how it turns out. Also curious to see what my artist does as I think she might have been more comfortable with movieverse.

I'm not through editing and still have to write the epilogue, let Red peck it apart, and then edit some more - just want to close it and go back to it next week, and that's not an option :D)

What a great article! I think I'll share it with my other set of friends that write HP fics. It was well written and shines a nice light on fanfic :)

He explained things well and without condescending, and he really seems to understand our corner of the world.

I liked that he went to the trouble of having a LJ com so he could meet fandom people and gather his information that way - and that he clearly paid attention.
