reposting to facebook/twitter
Sep. 1st, 2010 20:07I flock most personal entries these days but I've always strongly resisted locking down my entire journal. I've met some wonderful people who've stopped to read a story and stayed to become a friend and don't want to lose that opportunity. However --- if anyone decides to post any comment on my journal to a different venue, I will ban your ass so damn fast.... and trust me, I will find out!!
Why do they think anyone over the mental age of 15 would want to link their entire life to their Facebook account??? Idiots!

Date: 2010-09-04 07:42 (UTC)Lol, for people with too much free time, or too big ego, or...
You get the idea, right?
And apologies up front to anyone who takes offense at this POV.

Date: 2010-09-01 19:42 (UTC)I have always refused to get a Facebook account, there is no way that I want my private thoughts on a hugely public account!

Date: 2010-09-01 21:42 (UTC)Because there are LJ users who want to announce that they have written a blog entry and want to share, just like you type a nice blog post on Wordpress and you want to re-tweet or notify a possible audience on facebook. I can see the potential use in this Web 2.0 age, it's been around for a while and LJ is offering it to those who want it, as well.
So now instead of having people getting an rss feed on your lj-entries (this has been possible for years!), people who follow someone on twitter will get the heads up.
I a trusting people to respect the flock, as it has always been my policy. A violation is a ban, so I am not upset by this new thing. Just thinking, wow, finally they catch up with the current demands of web users who have different needs.
Just my 2 eurocents.

Date: 2010-09-01 23:59 (UTC)For me,it's the privacy principle. If there was an opt out function, where that repost button did not show up for comments on my journal, I'd be more likely to shrug and say 'whatever'
I can understand someone wanting to draw attention to a blog entry they've posted (though I'd not be keen for my kids' friends to know I just wrote more elf slash), but I'm having a problem following why anyone should be encouraged to draw attention to a comment they've posted in someone else's journal. It has a horrible 'thin edge of the wedge' feeling about it to me. It's not a long stretch from there to linking the entire entry.
And you know - I never really thought about the RSS feeds before, lol. I follow the SWG, but I suspect I just didn't associate it with my journal. Along the lines of - why would anyone bother? That 'repost' button feels a little more invasive and personal.
