I flock most personal entries these days but I've always strongly resisted locking down my entire journal. I've met some wonderful people who've stopped to read a story and stayed to become a friend and don't want to lose that opportunity. However --- if anyone decides to post any comment on my journal to a different venue, I will ban your ass so damn fast.... and trust me, I will find out!!

Why do they think anyone over the mental age of 15 would want to link their entire life to their Facebook account??? Idiots!

And Twitter--- if I wanted to share thoughts on Twitter, I'd do it. I have an account, just never worked out what to do with it and now don't remember my login name *g*

That sound totally like something I would do.

Horrific idea - Facebook is not a journal, it's a means of connecting people. LJ has always been a journal first, and your journal is a space you invite people into.

The good thing is that most people in this corner of the internet understand discretion and privacy though.

I've never seen any kind of connection between the two, specially if you're in one of the fanfiction communities; LJ is for personal thoughts and sharing with a specific interest group, Facebook as you say is for getting connected.

Not sure what Twitter's for *g*.

Lol, for people with too much free time, or too big ego, or...
You get the idea, right?
And apologies up front to anyone who takes offense at this POV.

Just dear, sweet LJ helping to make life simpler for you, yes :)

Think I preferred things back in the old days when LJ was about what the people wanted....

The russians continue to give us things we do not want. Maybe this will be unpopular enough that they'll change or stop it.

I think I would like to be asked how I feel about an idea, not have it foisted on me with the implication that 'father knows best' and of course I'll just love it once I've tried it. Invariably, I don't.

Woah - cross-posting comments to Facebook? Really? I missed this. Has anybody got the link to the original post about this?

I have always refused to get a Facebook account, there is no way that I want my private thoughts on a hugely public account!

Facebook to me is like spending the day in a really public venue where you might run into just about anyone. You dress nicely, make sure your hair's tidy and don't say anything memorable :D It should have no connection to the LJ side of my life

I have just seen the facebook and twitter options - why would someone print a random comment on their facebook to a story no one can see? It seems an idiotic thing to have those options and another example of LJ selling us out.

I wonder if they beta test this stuff and on who? Discussing it first would be fine, but I'm getting tired of suddenly finding new buttons and functions I never in my wildest dreams would have wanted.

Far as I can see, you can make sure you don't post to Facebook (which isn't likely) but you'd have no control over anyone else. I'm still trying to understand the point there - hopefully I'm missing something *g* Very bad PR.

Why do they think anyone over the mental age of 15 would want to link their entire life to their Facebook account??? Idiots!

Because there are LJ users who want to announce that they have written a blog entry and want to share, just like you type a nice blog post on Wordpress and you want to re-tweet or notify a possible audience on facebook. I can see the potential use in this Web 2.0 age, it's been around for a while and LJ is offering it to those who want it, as well.

So now instead of having people getting an rss feed on your lj-entries (this has been possible for years!), people who follow someone on twitter will get the heads up.

I a trusting people to respect the flock, as it has always been my policy. A violation is a ban, so I am not upset by this new thing. Just thinking, wow, finally they catch up with the current demands of web users who have different needs.

Just my 2 eurocents.

From: [identity profile] keiliss.livejournal.com
Thanks for the two eurocents --- that would be real money over here *g*!

For me,it's the privacy principle. If there was an opt out function, where that repost button did not show up for comments on my journal, I'd be more likely to shrug and say 'whatever'

I can understand someone wanting to draw attention to a blog entry they've posted (though I'd not be keen for my kids' friends to know I just wrote more elf slash), but I'm having a problem following why anyone should be encouraged to draw attention to a comment they've posted in someone else's journal. It has a horrible 'thin edge of the wedge' feeling about it to me. It's not a long stretch from there to linking the entire entry.

And you know - I never really thought about the RSS feeds before, lol. I follow the SWG, but I suspect I just didn't associate it with my journal. Along the lines of - why would anyone bother? That 'repost' button feels a little more invasive and personal.

*hugs*

There really should be a way to opt out without f-locking everything, so nothing that is posted on your page can get cross-linked. So far I've done a good job of keeping the data-miners unaware that Nikki and Jan are the same person. My privacy is very important... I don't want that to change.
This is crazy.
