My head is splitting, but I got there - couple of hours behind
I have been wanting to write a version of this story since 2006 and could never work out where to begin, and I've finally DONE IT!!! I cannot tell you how good it feels, even if most of the characters went off and did things I never imagined - like, the so-called main character who I could only coax to make occasional appearances, or the short-term secondary character who developed ideas above his station and will feature prominently in Book Two. No names, they know who they are.
Weird thing is I've always seen myself as a slow writer, someone who writes in short, sharp bursts, but I think it's more that I have the attention span of a goldfish. Chasing Nikki's total has kept me very focused over the last four weeks *g*. And even weirder thing? I've enjoyed doing this SO MUCH.

You're right too; it was totally fun. You're an awesome buddy. It's amazing how much you can get written when you put your mind to it, and when you have a bit of competition.
*hugs*
I think waiting a week before starting up again is good. I'll give me some time to work on some of the skipped scenes. Think I'm gonna keep writing on unitl Nov 30 as well. Maybe I can get my final count higher. :P

Date: 2009-12-02 04:02 (UTC)Daily or Weekly... Daily would definately keep us on track, but doesn't really allow for those ugh days. Weekly almost seems too long. How about definately on Sundays, and then periodically throughout the week, writer's choice?
Good luck on the start of editing! I don't know about you, but I've never done serious editing of a shitty first draft... it seems daunting. Not looking forward to it either.
But it seems I will finally have a use for that book I bought several years ago: "Editing Your Fiction." hehehe
My characters keep whispering new scenes in my ear. Teirr thinks it would be a great idea to make an escape attempt, even though I know it's too early and will have to be doomed to failure. Yet he won't tell me how he plans on doing it. So I'm stuck.
Sometimes I wish I could just make them shut up, ya know?

Date: 2009-12-03 23:44 (UTC)*Sometimes I wish I could just make them shut up, ya know?* Ohhh yes. I haven't written a word since "End of Book One', and they've made me feel positively guilty and 'wrong'.
Editing has started in a manner of speaking. The book moves between four different POVs because there are various settings, so I took each person's scenes and gave them separate files and am going through them to see if their voices stayed consistent. I am finding some amazing grammar twists *grin*
Sunday definite post, no excuses, and then either at will during the week or try and aim for a Wednesday update? I'm easy, but we need to stay focused - so easy to let it slide if there isn't enough pressure, lol.
Did you read the final pep talk newsletter by Peter Carey? That was very useful, about writing every day, even if you don't feel well, even if you don't want to. No sitting back and waiting for inspiration. He makes more sense to me after this.

Sunday and Wednesday update. Sounds perfect. :D I'm gonna need to print out a December writing calender now...
Teirr finally threw me a bone. PTSD. It works perfectly, and allows me to make an escape attempt without a plan. Makes perfect sense given the situation too. Unfortunately, this means I've got a bit of rewriting to do... *sighs*

Date: 2009-12-02 10:07 (UTC)The camaderie with fellow writers, helping each other to forge ahead, the somewhat disciplined writing (I have an hour, so write write write), but most of all having a month dedicated to writing and to celebrate the love for writing... yes, that brought it all home to me. :D

Yes - keep going! But don't forget to stop and pat your back every once in a while. ;-)
