double drabble for binky

‘Hm...How about Elrond's joy when he finds out that Elros' fea is reborn in one of his twins?’

Sorry Binks *blushes*. Sorta, kinda what you asked for. It felt wrong to single out one of the twins as ‘special’, which set me to thinking about Elrond’s other child…. As for Elrond’s reaction – *blames muse*.

Newborn hands waved impotently as grey eyes met Elrond’s in startled recognition. A soft mewling sound issued from rosebud lips, and the eyes blinked, startled.. Elrond knelt and they studied one another until the unmistakable sound of breaking wind emanated from the cradle and caused the Elf lord to rock back on his heels, grinning. Oh yes, this was going to be interesting. This would serve him right for thinking himself too good to be an elf.

“Welcome back, Elros,” he said softly. The baby’s attempt to stick out her tongue was only half-successful, but the intent was clear. “By the time you can talk you’ll have forgotten your past, but I fear you’ll never feel quite – right – in that feminine body. Fair payment for calling me a girl when first we moved to Lindon, and mocking my liking for boys. Now you’re going to be the girliest girl imaginable. A proper elven princess, no more bullying or hanging around mortals for you.”

He smiled at Celebrían, lying exhausted on the bed. “I have the perfect name for our little girl,” he said, smiling cheerfully down at the baby. “Something that says exactly who she will be. How about Arwen?”

I like this very much. Elros = the proper Elven princess, a real girlie girl--really made me laugh. But then, of course, one could consider that, in the end, he loses Elros twice. (Sorry if I'm projecting unintended darkness into an otherwise upbeat piece. I have a tendency in my own stuff to make my tragedies funny and introduce tragic foreshadowing into my comic pieces.)

Heh - well, I couldn't resist the line about 'no more hanging around mortals' *g*. I thought it was a dark little piece actually and spent time trying to lighten it up - at one stage Elrond seemed positively sinister, lol.

I think the story is even better with Elros being reborn as Arwen!

I love how startled the baby is when she realises that Elrond is her father and how she sticks her tongue out at him. Also how Elrond feels that justice is now done. I can just imagine him making her wear pink dresses and learn embroidery when all she wants to do is wear leggings and climb trees.

Heh, yes. Elrond thinks he's getting the last laugh here, but in the end Elros/Arwen will stay true to his/her first choice. I would never, ever, ever have thought of this without Binky's insane prompt of course :D. Glad you liked it, love. It was fun to write.
