Two more drabbles, both featuring Finrod. This time, Galadriel's Best Interests (Galadriel, Finrod, mention of Celeborn) for [livejournal.com profile] alexcat, who left the subject up to me, and Choice (Finrod) for [livejournal.com profile] silver_trails, who asked for one of Galadriel's brothers.

Galadriel's Best Interests

for Alex. 200 words.

"I am not a prize mare to be bartered off to the highest bidder"

Artanis was furious. Her blue green eyes blazed, her face was white save for a flush of colour high on her cheekbones. Finrod made a shushing sound, gesturing over his shoulder to the flimsy hanging that formed the door to Menegroth’s version of ‘private’ quarters.

"I am doing no such thing" he hissed. "I simply have your best interests at heart. You want to study with the Lady, and you can't stay here unattached..."

"It is The Law," Artanis recited in deadly imitation of Thingol at his most pompous. "Yes, yes I know, but..."

"... and the king’s own nephew, Celeborn, has offered for you. It's perfect, Nerwen." Finrod turned wide blue eyes on his sister, his expression all enthusiastic hopefulness. She glared at him. Unlike most, she was immune to his charms.

"And you could do worse," he concluded, ducking as she picked up a small, artfully carved crystal duck and aimed it at his head. "Why - he's even taller than you..."

Artanis glared at him in patent disgust. "Oh yes. Tall, arrogant, and silent as a well. Never. Not in a million years!”

Choice

for CC. 100 words

The chill wind howled endlessly, slowing blood, numbing thought. Wet. When last had he been dry? Unlike his father, he had not heeded great Námo's words. His siblings were all eager for adventure, there were elves here who followed Finarfin, not Fingolfin and his sons. Duty chosen above love, he had pressed the silver ring into his father’s hand. “Tell her I release her, and why I can no longer send for her when it is safe. Tell her - for me, there will be no other.”

Now, witness to Turgon's grief, he gave thanks that Amarië had remained behind

The first one made me snicker out loud. Not in a million years, huh? **snorfle**

Then you made me sniffle. These are both lovely, Kei.

“Tell her I release her, and why I can no longer send for her when it is safe. Tell her - for me, there will be no other.”

So sad... I'm glad he returned to her after the Halls. It seems to me here that Finrod would have returned too, but he had to guide those of his father's people who still wanted to go to Middle-earth. A lovely drabble, Kei. Thank you very much! And 100 words! :)

"Why - he's even taller than you..."

This had me laughing out loud! (g)

I think Finrod hoped Celeborn's height would be a good selling point :D

I'm glad you enjoyed your drabble, dear. The one you wrote me was utterly amazing and this is nowhere near in its league - that was a quite wonderful piece of writing. Thank you again:)

I think - Finrod would not have let his siblings go alone. It would have felt wrong, irresponsible. I'm glad we know he was reborn early and I'm sure they were together in the end, but it's still sad to think how they were separated.

Thank you for your kind words, hon. I think I was worried because it was Melkor, so I had to do the best I could so you'd like the story. And yours is very good! I can't write drabbles yet, just doubles and triples. :)

(nodding) I agree, which makes me wonder about Finarfin, why he chose to return. Someone should rite a fic about his decision.

*hugs*

Oh my, Finrod! He's my favoritest First Age elf, and usually so little written about him. Thank you! And don't I just love Galadriel, so very sure of herself and her answers, well, until she's not. Excellent!

And the second, wah. Oh yes, he was strong, and smart, though we all know that it had to be that Elenwe came, lest no Idril, Earendil, ad infinitum. But always a sad story. It's nice to know that he walks in Valinor, at his father's side, and hopefully, presumably reunited with Amarie.

Oh, I'd quite forgotten. I remember now you once telling me he's your favourite. He's a wonderful elf, I love how many-sided he is - princely, responsible, curious, warm, adventurous, honourable...

Galadriel proved that it's a good idea not to try and be too much of a know-it-all :D As for the other one - I like to believe they were together in the end, once her family got over their disapproval and all.

Aww, thanks so much, WN, glad you liked them. Yeah, not in a million years, lol! He's probably still laughing at her.

And Finrod - did what he had to do.

Galadriel made me laugh - was it your intention to make a joke about them getting on so very well later? *liked Finrod*

As to Choice, beautiful example of 'less is more'.

Choice started off at 280 words, and I challenged myself to bring it down to 100 without hurting it. It's not the best drabble in the Whole Wide World, but I'm rather proud of it :D. Thanks.

And yes, the joke was quite intentional :)

I've never really shipped any het pairing really hard. But your Galadriel and Celeborn was meant to be, and I wouldn't enjoy them with anyone else. And - I think I've just started to ship Finrod/Amarie very, very much. I love him here, this drabble is so strong.

Best Interests made me smile so hard.

I've always loved Finrod/Amarie - so sad and yet just as well she stayed behind. And I'm quite, quite sure they were reunited as soon as he was reborn in Aman.

Best Interests was fun - thanks, dear :)

Enjoyed them both. The irony of Galadriel's not in a million years. What a beginning for a story. And with Choice so sad for Finrod when duty has to replace love.

I don't write much het, but several times I've been tempted to try Finrod/Amarie... see why she wasn't allowed to go with him, or look at their reunion once he was reborn.

Galadriel is right far too often - there needs to be balance :D

*snicker* Oh yes, I can see Galadriel fuming! Though, of course, it is rather ironic that she's protesting so much. Never in a million years? Well, she changed her mind ;)

Poor Finrod. It was decent of him to release Amarië under the circumstances, though she hopefully still waited for him when he was released from Mandos.

Heh, Galadriel needs to be wrong now and then. It's good for her - teaches her humility :D And she was seriously wrong this time. Big brother knew best after all.

I like to think of Finrod and his lady reunited once he was released from Mandos and that her family accepted him and allowed them to bind.

Glad you liked these, Kitty. Thank you :)
