(no subject)

I have a problem I never even considered could happen. I have finished my secret santa fic, it has been beta'd (thank you Red, dear) I just have to read through it one last time, insert one phrase, and write the header, and then I can send it in. For once in my life I have something ready not only in time, but ahead of time. And the problem is...? It does't have a title. I have thought about it from every angle I can and there. is. just. no. obvious. title! Right now it's funny, but give it a day or two and it is going to be a desperate matter! It doesn't even have a sensible working title I could use - it has just been referred to by the names of the two elves concerned.
Does this happen to other people, I wonder, or is it just me?

Hee It always happens to me too. Sometimes I keep my work for week just because I couldn't come up with the name.

*chuckles* Keep me in mind for the next time, ok? And between the two of us, I'm sure we would have managed to come up with some sort of name. Probably something highly original, like "Elves". *lol*

Nothing wrong with "Elves", Fim. It surely beats "Get This Off and Let's Get on With It" which is the current title of the beta'd copy!

[raises hand] Yeah, titles are a real pain for me too. And I often ask my beta for help but she usually just says she's crap at titles also. (Nevertheless, she's been a help.) I usually just free-associate and write down anything I can think of and see what sticks. (Sometimes the discarded ones are really stupid, so at least the exercise is amusing.) Giving the job to your muse to dream about overnight can work too. And hey you got a fic done ahead of time! Congrats!

My muse did have a suggestion - very funny, very apt, but it told the entire story in three words so I had to decline.
Anyway, the free-association idea is great! I have a list of unusable but rather funny titles and one which might seem a bit obscure but I understand it and think I will have to go with it. Thank you so much, I was getting desperate :)
