Well, it's Sunday elsewhere, even if it's Monday morning here. NaNo - it's a bit like running a marathon: I know I'm having fun even thought my muscles ache :D I'm about a day behind again, which is better than three days behind which is where I was earlier this week. I got a lot done today by writing in 15 minute blocks instead of sticking with it till I finish a scene. It fitted the day and it's probably good to mix up the method. Bit like varying the gym circuit so your muscles don't get too used to any single routine.

I also wrote a fic for the lotr_community November challnege this week, which was an extra 2,000 words that don't feature on the official word count *g*. I thought I'd have to drop out but I loved the prompt and knew what I wanted to do with it, and I really needed a break from BB. (I'll post it here later in the week). Went back to NaNo today with more energy, wrote more than I expected, even killed off the nice OC without a qualm because it made sense :)

One of the threads had to move to Numenor - I tried to find a way round it when I made the outline, but it's essential to the plot. Guess how much I knew about Numenor? Heh. I've had the Thain's Book open a lot - Numenor, history, geography, try and build a picture... I'm vaguely worried that this fic will be really, really awful when it's done. The elves tell me they're having a good time, but I seem to be waaaay out of my depth *g*.

Personal note -- I owe people comments (Himring) and replies to comments (lots of people) I'm sorry I'm so slow right now, I'll get there.

Other personal note -- oh gods, Agie, I forgot your birthday because LJ is an ASS and there was no notification... I am so sorry!!! Belated bday banner coming up tomorrow! Arrg!!! Happy birthday!

Well, I guess we all have our different types of fun *wink*

At least the Elves having fun *wide smile*

Well done. I'm glad you enjoy this and that the end will produce the awaited BB.

Have a great week.

He had the potential to stick around and be a nice secondary character, but really, what kind of a war is it when none of the named characters die?

Can I ask you a question? Taking what you remember of BB, who do you think should be the most focused upon character in book two - Galadriel, Glorfindel or Erestor? Just curious.

Be safe, dear.

Well, I must admit to a not-so-good-memory on this, but if you ask me to rank the potential interest, it's:
1. Erestor, focusing on his spy activities - most intriguing.
2. Glofindel, because of the type of relations I seem to remember he had with Gil-galad, basically, humour of two drinking buddies, which I liked (Plus, he IS who and what he is, which makes him a favorite)
3. Galadriel, I don't like her too much in general, and all that pops into my mind in regard to her, is the scene with Celebrian in Moria. Her power hunger is not a favorite topic of interest for me.

I wonder if you asked this because it may affect your focus-direction or just to see if a fan-reader has the same view as you?

And thank you, I am good for now.

Curious mainly. I've taken a few things in newish directions and I just wondered how much someone who read it a while back would remember and if it fitted with what I'm currently writing. Thanks:)

Elves having fun, yeah!

I didn't get a reminder either - *Kicks LJ*

It's a stormy fall night here - how is it over there?

LJ is getting more random by the day.

Over here the weather was baking hot yesterday (and I complained muchly) but this evening it's almost cold again. Very strange, but I'm not complaining. The more summer gets held back the better. I do not do heat.

Wonderful progress! Numenor has always been my least favorite part of Tolkien, so I extend my sympathies to you, along with the statement "Better you than me" - LOL.

Really, I'm so proud of you. It's hard to work in spurts, but it can be very effective and obviously it worked for you. I'm throwing up confetti and will call on the nearest clean-freak to sweep it up for us.

As a rule I'm not happy working in little time bites but it was that or no writing at all - some days don't have much 'me' time. It's a bit like doing Write or Die but with a timer rather than a website, LOL. I don't think I could write action narrative that way but most of it was dialogue between characters i know well, so it went along surprisingly smoothly.

Thank you for the confetti :)

Nice work! You really do cover the numbers doing this.

Numenor is fun. I was pretty excited to find it so. Did not think I wanted to know all that stuff and then started reading it and got hooked. I have a big hunk of a Numenor story finished (Aldarion and Erendis--several thousand words already--think it is turning into a mini-novella) which I will finish after the holday fic swaps.

I love how Tolkien talks about Numenor's end days, it sounds wonderful read aloud, but otherwise I'd not paid much attention beyond Aldarion. Now I'm starting to realise there's a huge family saga spanning several generations in there just waiting for the right writer. I'm also looking forward to your Aldarion and Erendis story, just from the snippet you posted a while back.

Oh dear heaven, fic swaps. I'll have to go straight into that from NaNo.

Kei, I commend your discipline to be able to deal with NaNo, and it sounds like you're making great progress.

Heh. I've spent a fair amount of time in NĂºmenor, thanks to the Dark Muse (who has very mixed feelings about visits to that particular island ;^)), and hope to revisit it in various capacities. Tolkien provided enough detail* for a decent framework, but then it remains enough of a blank slate to have fun with it.

I also wrote a fic for the lotr_community November challnege this week,

Squee! I read it! Wonderful! Shall leave a review in the near future.

Thanks :) I like the 'every day for 30 days' aspect of the challenge, but pushing out the bones of a story so fast means it helps if you know where you're going and why --- which rather sums up my NĂºmenor drama :D. I think I gave less thought to the world building aspect because I saw all the geographic detail available and drew the conclusion that I had 'information'. Never assume, lol! It'll take a bit more effort to find my way into this section.

You read Calie's little story? Yay, I'm so glad you liked it.

15 minute blocks sounds a good idea.

I didn't get a reminder from LJ either; however, I did get one from Dreamwidth.

Lj = terminally random these days. Well at least Agie got a two day birthday extravaganza here :D

Writing in 15 minute blocks was interesting --- I set the timer and just got on with it, a bit like doing Write or Die, lol. I wrote at least 1,000 words more than I'd hoped to.. Still, not something I'd do regularly.

You're probably closing the gap again today *g*. I'm at that point where I would love to stop for a couple of days and go back over what I've got, but now isn't the time.

I went and colour-coded the different POVs though :D Easier to look back.

Yups, I skipped way ahead in the story, writing the final chapter as it comes to me because I have wedding preparations to think about (which I think is needed in the current chapter) ;c) So yes, I know what you mean!

You're doing NaNo and you wrote a different fic? Wow, ambitious really. I'm so impressed with people who can commit to writing that much in a short time. I was going to try it and it fell apart on day one. Guess not this year. And you know if you need info on Numenor, you can always send me a note. Btw how do you have access to the Thain's Book? I thought it got taken off-line.

And arggg, it was Agie's birthday? I didn't get a notification either. Rats!!

Playing with the little ficcie was like a holiday, because it felt so good to write something that I could see the whole shape of at a glance.. I paid for it though, had to push out a lot of words later to catch up. Still, if I don't make the 50k cut it's okay, for me the main point of NaNo is trying to write every day for a month as the professionals all advise -- how they do it for months at a stretch, I have no idea though :D

Oh yes, the Thain's Book (http://thainsbook.net/index.html) is back! I was looking on Google Images for a clear map of Numenor a few weeks ago, recognised their style, checked the link and it was really them. New domain name, same content. It's been helpful about Numenor, but I'll gratefully take you up on your offer re Numenor once I start editing, thank you. I feel like I have an immense nerve even trying to play in that particular sandpit.

Agie's had a three day birthday thanks to LJ, lol!
