Day 5. In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

Many Paths to Tread: This one always surprises me. It's a small, not terribly well known Tolkien archive catering to fics rated up to teen (or a very, very light mature if you're careful), features mainly elves and men, all ages, gen, mild het or slash. Regular updates, very much still in use.

SilmarillionWritersGuild: I was one of the early members of the Yahoo group (dragged along by Uli) and later the archive, which at that point was presented as possibly a writers' workshop or some such. It's grown into the go-to place for Silm fiction. This is the site most of the Silm writers I know call home. Big, big variety of fic. Be warned though, not mobile phone friendly.

Faerie: Ehh, what should I say about Faerie? It's this really, really nice archive with good to excellent writers. It's a friendly, comfortable place, easy to post to and navigate, it has a great mod, and it's a safe and very welcoming space. You can chat with members or just pass through, whichever works for you - it's that kind of home from home.

Day 6. In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

We all want feedback on our fics.
We all want art for our fics (that is such a cool compliment!).
We all want kudos if you don't have time for that feedback.

I forgot about MPTT, which is a shame given how much I love gen fic. Though I do know the archive allows a hard R/Mature rating, unlike the LJ comm.

I have never, that AI know of, even seen the site for the Silmarillion Writer's Guild.

I've always walked softly with the above teen stuff there, which means several fics haven't gone up due to maybe just one scene. But it is a nice, wide-ranging archive and deserves better promotion than it gets.

Sites generally do not promote as well as they should. Uli was one of the original SWG mods, so that's how I first found my way there though back then, like you, I was a lot more lotR (still my first love tbh)

I am not fond of a lot of the Silmarillion and I have to admit that I despise Feanorians, at least his sons, but I do love some of the Sil stuff.

Well, I'm afraid I haven't quite got there, with the 'Snowflake Challenge' this time. Next time, hopefully.

I am just so grateful that there is somewhere, to archive and post fic. So I love all the sites. Although MPTT I've visited but not joined yet. So maybe that's something to think about.

There was a Tolkien gen week on Tumblr last year because someone was complaining there wasn't enough Tolkien gen fic. MPTT was the first thing I mentioned; I have no idea if it helped or if people are so focused on AO3 they don't want to bother with other sites. :/

I'm not a fan of the Feanorians, I've seen people at our Truth and Reconciliation Commission claim they 'didn't have a choice' or were 'following orders' to explain truly horrific acts. I have no more patience with it in fiction than I do in real life. I'm more a Second Age person, or late First Age.

I always treated Ao3 as a backup, but I'm old fandom, come out of the time of small archives, so they feel more natural and comfortable to me. I'm always so relieved to find the ones I use are still moving along, being used. MPTT isn't strong on feedback, but people certainly read a lot there.

I love the story of Celebrimbor and Annatar. I love the story of Maeglin...he's probably theb only villain I like.

I think Maeglin's as much a victim as a villain, and a very young one too. I like Aredhel's story and the period just before the War of Wrath with all those surviving elves huddled around the Mouths of Sirion and on Balar - and I love the early part of the Third Age, all the politics and drama around the fighting with Angmar. There's not enough fic set then.

Gosh, I'd totally forgotten SWG - but it must have been promoted in a previous Fandom Snowflake because when I just went to look I discovered that I posted my only two Silm stories there exactly two years ago today. Funny thing coincidence.

Oh man, been there, sooo been there, lol.
