not really an update
Aug. 19th, 2008 02:51I've posted fics, memes, a comment on the Russia-Georgian situation, but personal update? Not for over a month.
Tonight is probably not the night for it, either, but here goes.
*sits and thinks*
Okay, not much there. Bit tired. Headachey. Irritated.
I have a few drabbles written, but I want at least five before I post anything. Sorry I'm slow, the weekend was kind of wiped out. I made a list and I'm trying to work down it in order, not do the so-called 'easy' ones first. Easy? Hah!
I've always been so in awe of people (we know who they are) who can tell a story in 100 or 200 words and capture the essence of a moment. Not just a generic scene that could apply to anyone - just supply name of choice - but one where you recognise the characters, can hear them, see their surroundings. I'm wordy. If I write Fingon looking into the fire, I have an absolute compulsion to describe: the room, the tapestries on the wall, what the room is used for, what he is wearing, drinking, does he favour jewellery when he's 'off duty' ---
Short and focused is a challenge long overdue, lol, and I'm enjoying the learning. Last time a similar meme went round, I just wrote each one till it seemed finished and rounded to the nearest hundred - this time I'm being more disciplined, lol. Not so sure about the end results - I've had stunning drabbles from CC and Min, so I'm feeling a little inadequate.
And there are two that want to become fics when they grow up, but 2009 is another year.
Managed to do some Amor in August reading. Of what I've looked at so far, the best two have been Let Them Eat Cake by
jaiden_s - possibly the funniest, warmest fic I have read all year, the kind of fic you just don't find these days (I think Elladan has the best lines), and Something Brief by
adlanth - purely incredible. Intense, intimate, brilliantly written.
No, I'm not doing links. Lj hates me tonight, I'm not even trying.
*sits and thinks some more*
Nope. That seems to be it. I wanted to ask what you think is the most irritating characteristic other people can have, but I'm probably just looking for trouble here. In fact I know I am. So I won't.
