Favorite Egyptian God/Goddess. (from Red Lasbelin)
My favourite has always been Lady Bast (or Bastet, but I like Bast), she whose essence was represented by the cat, that useful creature who kept down the vermin and was so loved it became a part of the family. She protects the home from evil spirits and disease (back in the day those were one and the same thing), looks after women's secrets, protects girls and women with a special care for those who are pregnant or in childbirth, she is kind and generous and enjoyed the most amazing drunken orgy of a festival every year --- but in spite of her association with cats and all the kind, homely things she guards, she is also the other aspect of Sekhmet the lioness, the fierce warrior goddess who charged into battle at the king's side, who smote her enemies with great enjoyment--- you do not mess with the lions. And when you think about it, you need a little of that fierceness from the deity guarding your hearth.
