a flurry of Snowflakes?
Jan. 15th, 2017 07:21And this is what happens when you think you'll post batches of maybe 3 at intervals and then you get busy and time passes and then you realise there's only one prompt left!!! And so - multiple Snowflakes. Most of them are very short so it makes sense to combine them in one post though I might repost Day 5 with the fic recs on DW instead of repeating it here and link to the comm [edit - done that]

Day 4 - Interact with someone
I do this whenever I find a fic I like because I don't need to know someone to comment to them. So I didn't go out and specifically find someone.
Day 5 - Rec fanworks
Fan recs. Oh lord, now I need to find links :( Okay, there's Welcome to Imladris by SavioBriion which is about the early days of Imladris with gorgeous touches and such a fresh eye for an old story. And there's Pieces by AiElbereth, a great A/U --- Erond/Lindir, modern times, ballet. No really, even if you're not really into AUs, you need at least to look at it. Then Red Lasbelin wrote me Can't Take My Eyes off You for the 2015 MSV, it's Erestor and Glorfindel finally in Valinor and how it's not paradise but they're together. And Talullah wrote the most wonderful ofc in her
lotr_community Yule fic, Home for Midwinter. Just so beautiful!
There'd be more but I'm too asleep to go look for more links.
Day 6 - Create a fannish wish list
Art to illustrate a story of mine that the artist fell a bit in love with? Just something they made because they like it. Getting a gift like that feels like sunshine inside. (heck, isn't this why we all mention art for this one?) More realistically I'd love an appropriate icon for Pink Flamingo, but I'd be horribly fussy about it so maybe don't offer :D
And feedback. I've never been up in the big numbers really, I didn't write E/G back when that's where the readers were (that's ironic, yes) and I don't write Feanorians now. But it is awesome to know there are a couple of people out there reading and liking something enough to say 'Liked this' or 'That was good' or 'Why is there no sex yet?' Sometimes that's why the next chapter happens. Sometimes that's why a specific archive gets used.
Day 7 - Create a fanwork
Create a fanwork????? Ha. Gifties! One still to edit (why do you think I'm doing this, don't you know procrastination when you see it?) and two left to write. I took a few days off here. It was starting to feel like NaNo. Then back into the Flamingo.
Day 8 - In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself
Good listener.
I try and understand the other person's side, even if I don't agree.
I'm a good cook.
Can talk fandom and writing for hours if you'll let me (what do you mean, is that a likeable trait? of course it is!)
Day 9 - Send feedback to two fannish people
I don't need a special day to do this, that'd feel a bit fake. if I like it, I comment. If I'm on my phone, I leave kudos because I've learned the hard way that I don't always remember to come back.
Day 10 - In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme.
politics and world building!
good hair
long fic with twisty plots and several threads - they're easier to read than write
Erestor/Glorfindel
It has Gil-galad in it.
I no longer have to add 'Glorfindel returns' to this list, I think I'm all read/written out there.
Day 11 - In your own space, talk about a creator.
Erestor's Vanilla Elf brought me into this fandom back in 2004. I came looking for pictures of Hugo Weaving as Elrond and discovered an entirely new magical universe. This site was my gateway drug. Bless her for all the joy she gave me.
Day 12 - In your own space, post a rec for fannish spaces and resources - comms, challenges, twitters, tumblrs, etc
Read the Day 12 comments for some great multi fandom recs and while you're there, look for turlough's comment on that list, she linked to some DW comms - really useful stuff!
Day 13 - In your own space, write about a moment in fandom that meant a lot to you.
Posting my very first fic on a couple of Yahoo groups (2004) and watching it sink like a stone, and then after the final part Elfscribe (I was in awe of how good she was, so this was Something) left the longest comment I'd ever seen on a group - it was such a huge OMG moment that it's the first thing that came to mind when I read the prompt, way ahead of things like first MEFA nomination or first MEFA win or the time I asked what on earth people saw in Erestor and Glorfindel and survived... though really, a moment? It's been an amazing almost 13 years.
Day 14 - Go forth and commit an act of kindness.
I hope I have done something kind today. I didn't do anything specific, I was just me? This was another one where I felt awkward about making a special effort.
