snowflake 2016: day 3

Day 3 - In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
Something I'd not done before: Love Over Gold
A reworking of the Little Mermaid (not as dark as the original fairytale but no fluff and no talking fish) for last year's AinA. I struggled to find my way into the prompt, but once I got away from the 'sweet fairytale' concept and tried for a touch of darkness, an edge of sorts, (and some unDisneyish sex), I found a challenge I really enjoyed wrestling with. Some of the comments made me wonder if I'd gotten that all across as I'd hoped, but I think there is an expectation when you see mention of a fairytale in the summary or tags. Anyhow I felt I learned a few new things writing it and I liked how it came together.
Something I had fun writing and still makes me smile: Snowed In
Summary: Gil-galad, his Herald and his SO (Senior Organiser?) are separated from their hunting party by a blizzard and are forced to spend the night in a cave.
This was for B2Me 2014. Here because this is what I most like writing, the kind of story I can just relax and have fun with, and the people I love (lacking poor Glorfindel who had to try and look after a bunch of useless courtiers out in the snow and so missed out) I didn't outline anything, I just put them in a confined space and let them talk while I wrote it down. And they obliged by being themselves.
First real Silmfic: The Boys of Summer
The idea of writing this scared me, but I liked writing in Gildor's pov so that helped a lot, that and the bitter sweetness of him and Glorfindel. From the summary: This is about Gildor, son of Lalwen, and Glorfindel of the House of the Golden Flower and a little of their experience during those six days of horror that were the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. It was like the story was there, waiting to get out (does that make sense?) - Maeglin even got into it. The battle itself was confined to what Gildor knew and experienced, otherwise I wouldn't have known where to start, though someone needs to write that story, just those six days. But this - I feel good about the way this turned out, and writing it was an experience a little like flying.
An E/G fic because this is what I like to do: The Wheel Turns
Because it would not be my list if there wasn't an Erestor/Glorfidel fic (Love Over Gold is on here for totally different reasons). And because I do love this one. Set in Minas Tirith early in the 4th Age, Glorfindel helping Erestor come to terms with the fact of mortal aging. I was going through something very difficult at the time of writing, and maybe it shows a little. Oh - swap fic the recipient never acknowledged, btw. If it had been weaker or if I'd liked it less, I would have second-guessed myself for a long while after. Why do people do this?
